The Solomon Valley Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Area, Inc., in conjunction with the Kansas Rural Center hosted the Solomon ValleyWind Energy Conference April 17, 2008 at the Huck Boyd Center in Phillipsburg.  Registration for the event began at 8:00 a.m. with Lt. Governor Mark Parkinson as the keynote speaker.  The Lt. Governor serves as co-chair of the Kansas Energy Council and chair of the Kansas Wind Working Group.

After the Lt. Governor addressed the attendees the subject of Community Wind was discussed by Tom Wind via Webinar.  Two more morning sessions were offered, "Just the Basics", with Jim Ploger, covered what is needed to have a wind farm and the "Government" panel with Steve Errebo and Josh Svaty provided information on what Kansas and other states have faced regarding wind energy.  Lunch was provided by Bigge’s Country Kitchen of Stockton. The afternoon sessions covered topics about "Leasing" and "Interconnectivity", followed by closing comments.  Leasing with Jennifer O’Hare and Pete Ferrell discussed property owner's responsibility, property value, and navigating leasing agreements.  Speaking on “Interconnectivity”, Kimberly Gencur Svaty informed attendees how power is taken from the turbines to the power grid.  Exhibitors during the day included Entegity Wind Systems from Colorado and Energy for Generations from Kansas.
